New Year Resolutions
How are your New Year resolutions doing? It has been found that within the first month of a New Year a person begins to waver on the New Year resolutions they’ve committed to. Therefore the challenge, as it is in most areas of our lives, is to not give up but to continue getting up after we waiver or fall, and to recommit to the goals that we’ve set.
That is the focus of our reading today in our One Month To Live devotional. Did you catch the Thomas Alva Edison quote that was given? “I have not failed. I’ve just found ten thousand ways that don’t work.”
We see in the life of the apostle Paul that he too had a wonderful forward focus that propelled him to effective ministry through times of blessings and challenges. As he noted in Philippians 3:13 -14 “Brethren, I do not regard myself as having laid hold of it yet; but one thing I do: forgetting what lies behind and reaching forward to what lies ahead, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.” As Paul put all that he experienced, both good and bad, before the Cross in order to press forward so that he might be further used by the Lord I encourage you to do the same today.
Note assignment number 2 at the end of today’s ‘One Month’ chapter—“What’s your greatest fear about trusting God completely with your life? What’s the basis for this fear? Journal about how you would face this fear if you only had one month to live.”
Take a moment and honestly complete this assignment. Then ask the Lord for the strength to live in total trust of Him so that you might risk failure in order to persevere in your commitments to Him.
